Northwave claimed a beautiful one-two at Eneco Tour: on Saturday September 24th, Slovenian Luka Pibernik of Lampre-Merida, team entirely equipped with Northwave Extreme shoes, took his first World Tour win in the 6th stage (Riemst – Lanaken 185,2 Km), preceding another Northwave’s rider, Brit Mark McNally (Wanty-Groupe Gobert), whilst Belgian Bert Van Lerberghe (Topsport Vlaanderen) completed the day’s podium.
The 5-man breakaway group who ultimately sprinted for the win – Pibernik, McNally, Van Lerberghe, Gougeard (AG2R-La Mondiale) and Haga (Giant-Alpecin) – moved on the attack at Km 50, reaching a 5-minute maximum advantage. In spite of the comeback of the peloton in the late going, the escapees managed to hold on a 10-second cushion. Aussie Rohan Dennis (BMC Racing) maintained the overall leadership.
Pibernik’s teammate, Italian Diego Ulissi, finished eighth at Giro dell’Emilia won by Colombian Esteban Chaves (Orica BikeExchange) ahead of Frenchman Romain Bardet (AG2R-La Mondiale) and Rigoberto Uran (Cannondale-Drapac).
