Primož Roglič Triumphs at the Volta a Catalunya

Roglic, Soler, Ayuso

With a spectacular finale, Primož Roglič secured the overall victory at the 104th edition of the Volta a Catalunya. The 35-year-old Red Bull – BORA – hansgrohe leader claimed his second win in the prestigious race, following his 2023 triumph. In addition to the overall title, Primož Roglič also secured two stage victories, as well as the points and mountain classifications.

The final stage of the Volta a Catalunya turned into a thrilling battle decided by mere seconds. Primož Roglič started the last stage with a one-second deficit to Juan Ayuso. The strategy for Red Bull – BORA – hansgrohe was clear: attack. Roglič won the first bonus sprint, taking the virtual lead, but Ayuso responded by winning the second sprint and reclaiming the top spot.

With 21 kilometers to go, Primož Roglič made his decisive move. On the third-to-last ascent of Montjuïc, Barcelona’s iconic hill, he launched a powerful attack and broke away solo. He maintained his lead all the way to the finish line. With a 14-second advantage over his pursuers, Primož Roglič not only celebrated the stage win but also secured overall victory.

“This Volta was extremely tight and came down to the bonus seconds on the last stage. After the second sprint, I had no choice – if I wanted to win, I had to do something. In the end, I had the legs to finish it off. The team worked brilliantly, we raced well, and we had a great time. I really enjoyed this week,” Primož Roglič said at the finish line.

After a short recovery period, Primož Roglič will begin his preparation for the Giro d’Italia. The first Grand Tour of the season kicks off on May 9 with the Grande Partenza in Albania.
