The Slovenian recovered 25″ on Yates in San Benedetto del Tronto’s ITT (with Van Emden third), scoring the second seasonal triumph in a World Tour stage-race.
After a thrilling final ITT, Team Jumbo-Visma’s Primoz Roglic celebrated the overall win at Tirreno-Adriatico, World Tour stage race held in Italy from Wednesday to Tuesday, March 13th-19th. Started with a 25-second gap from Brit Adam Yates in San Benedettto del Tronto’s 10-km ITT, Roglic rode his Aquila CV to a strong comeback, finishing the stage in the eleventh position, clocking 11:36, with a 26″ advantage on Yates himself. Thanks to this display, the Slovenian moved up to the GC throne, finishing Tirreno-Adriatico with 31 hundredths of a second over Yates and 30 seconds over Jakob Fuglsang. Roglic’s teammate Jos van Emden completed the ITT in third position, 4 seconds slower than the stage-winner Victor Campenaerts.
Roglic had built his GC success since the Tirreno-Adriatico’s opening TTT, placing second with Team Jumbo-Visma. The 29-year-old from Trbovlje placed then second in the stage 4 in Fossombrone (Italy) and third – ahead of Yates himself – in the stage 5 in Recanati (Italy). In 2019 Roglic had already clinched the overall win at UAE Tour.
