RUI COSTA: AFTER THE RAINBOW, THE OLYMPIC DREAM
The day after the opening ceremony, on Saturday August 6th, road cycling will award the first Olympic medals. Cyclists will face a 255 Km race characterized by three loops on Villa Chinesa tough circuit, with Portoguese Alberto Rui Costa, 2013 World Champion in Florence (Italy), lining up among the race favorites.
Another Lampre-Merida’s rider, South African Louis Meintjes, will be among the men to watch after his top-10 performance at the Tour de France, and so will Lithuanian Ramunas Navardauskas (Lithuania), Worlds bronze medallist in Richmond last year. Also riding Northwave Extreme in the event will also be Matej Mohoric and Jan Polanc (Slovenia), Mark Padun (Ukraine), Yukiya Arashiro (Japan), Kristìjan Durasek (Croatia) and Tsgabu Grmay (Ethiopia).
MTB: FONTANA, SPITZ AND DAHLE PURSUE A MEDAL
The Deodoro Olympic Park – Mountain Bike Centre will host the Cross Country competitions, scheduled on Saturday August 20th (Women’s race) and Sunday August 21st (Men’s race). In the women’s category, German Sabine Spitz and Norwegian Gunn-Rita Dahle will try to show up on the crucial point of the circuit, the Flag Mountain ascent, with a medal in their target, and will be joined in the race by fellow Northwave riders Helen Grobert (Germany), Tanja Zakelj (Slovenia) and Linda Indergand (Switzerland).
In the men’s race, Marco Aurelio Fontana (Italy) will try to repeat the memorable result achieved in the last edition: the bronze medal claimed in London (UK), even after riding the last lap of the Olympic circuit without the saddle. Four more bikers equipped with Northwave Extreme XC shoes will be at the start: home favorite Henrique Avancini (Brazil), José Antonio Hermida (Spain), Manuel Fumic and Moritz Milatz (Germany).
MAZZETTI IN THE TRIATHLON RACE
Anna Maria Mazzetti (Italy) will represent Northwave in the Women’s Triathlon race, on Saturday August 20th. The 27-year-old from Magenta (Northern Italy), who will face the cycling section with Extreme Triathlon shoes, has numerous national titles and European medals in her palmares.
