Sabine Spitz gives master class in Absa Cape Epic’s stage 3


After the Monday’s nasty crash, the German biker claimed a sprint win in Elandskloof together with teammate De Groot. Fumic and Avancini maintained the overall leadership in the Men’s category

After the scare, the win. The reaction of the champion was not long in coming: Sabine Spitz clinched victory in Absa Cape Epic’s stage 3, in South Africa (Elandskloof – Elandskloof 78 Km), on Wednesday March 22nd. After a nasty crash in stage 1, finished 2nd despite the crash, the German biker, equipped with Northwave Extreme XC shoes, and teammate Robyn de Groot repeated the success claimed in the opening prologue with a sprint win.

Ascendis Health’s athletes preceded the overall leaders, Esther Suss and Jennie Stenerhag, who maintain a 8’57” advantage on Spitz-De Groot. Mariske Strauss and Annie Last were third in the stage, as well as in the GC.

Northwave maintains the overall leadership in the Men’s category thanks to Cannondale Factory Racing’s Manuel Fumic and Henrique Avancini, equipped with Extreme XC. With the fourth place in stage 3, the German-Brazilian pair kept the overall jerseys with 1’20” on the day’s winners, Christoph Sauser and Jaroslav Kulhavy.
