Just a few days after its official inception, with the signature of the protocol of agreement in Bolzano by the three Presidents of the Euregio area, Arno Kompatscher, Günther Platter and Ugo Rossi, the Tour of the Alps is flying high already.

On the occasion of the FIS Alpine Ski World Cup in Alta Badia, the new important event taking over from the Giro del Trentino met the international media in a pleasant informal gathering organized by IDM Alto Adige/Südtirol along with Trentino Marketing and Tirol Werbung.

Francesco Moser, Mario Cipollini and Maria Canins, three cycling icons (over 500 career wins all together) sealed the handover from the Giro del Trentino – that celebrated its fourtieth edition in 2016 – and the new event that broadens its horizons, extending to Alto Adige and Tirol through five stages, from April 17 to 21, 2017, still under the management of G.S. Alto Garda.

The birth of the first cycling race of Euregio is loaded with significant meanings, even beyond sports. The chiefs of the territorial marketing organizations of the three areas – Josef Malgreiter for Tirol Werbung, Marco Pappalardo for IDM Alto Adige and Maurizio Rossini for Trentino Marketing – displayed the contents of the common project of the three destinations, clearly looking to promote themselves as a unique touristic system, characterized by strong bounds with cycling as a whole.

As a race, the Tour of the Alps will follow the steps of Giro del Trentino and the traditional technical characteristics that make it a highly-spectacular and demanding tour, ideal for climbers looking for a key dress rehearsal ahead of the Giro d’Italia.
