Sunday 11 July, 2021
The leader of UAE Team Emirates got through the 15th stage of the Grande Boucle, a Pyrenean stage of 191.3 km from Céret to Andorra la Vella sticking with a group of the other main contenders.
The stage was won by Sepp Kuss (Jumbo-Visma), who formed part of a large escape of riders with Pogačar eventually rolling in 22nd at 4’51’’.
Rigoberto Uran (Ef-Nippo) now moves up to second with a gap of 5’18”, while the third spot is completed by Jonas Vingegaard (Jumbo-Visma), at 5’32 “.
Pogačar: “The stage was tough, for the second consecutive day we faced a demanding course.
I expected to have to respond to an attack as the Ineos-Grenadiers started to force the pace early, but fortunately I had the legs to respond. The team supported me in the early and middle stages of the day and then on the last climbs luckily I had no problem at all and I could stay with my rivals.
It was a good day for me, even though the temperature was very hot, I’m going into the last week with a decent lead. ”
After the rest day, the Tour de France will have another challenging stage in the Pyrenees: 169 km from El Pas de la Casa to Saint Gaudens with the ascents of the Col de Port, Col de la Core and Col de Portet d ‘ Aspet.
