Stage 14 was another difficult day.
I almost stopped to photograph in a picturesque town not far from the start. But the angle and sun direction looked difficult so I kept driving. The roads would be difficult to get around, especially getting into as big a city as Lyon. So about halfway along, I was up against the Publicity Caravan and just stayed there till the finish.
What should have been easy, suddenly got difficult. The photographer in front of me and I got directed off the route but then there were signs for the press area. We kept driving, thinking maybe we had to go around the big sports complex to find the entrance. Next thing we knew, we were on the autoroute heading out of town! He kept going. I turned around at the next exit and came back. I wasn’t sure where I was but found my way back to the course. Everything was barricaded of course, but some nice cops let me go down the street and doublepark. From there I had to walk with all my gear about 600 meters to the finish line. It was really hot but I got my shots.
Italian Trentin won the stage.
I made it back to the car without it having been towed, so consider that a success.
