Stage 21: Paris

The race was very slow getting to Paris from Versailles but went very fast when they arrived and finished earlier than expected. David Millar was part of a break early on but was easily gobbled by the peloton towards the end of the 10 laps.

Marcel Kittel (Argos-Shimano) came through the final corner in good position and, despite launching his sprint early, was able to hold his power and win on the Champs-Elysées in a close finish. Andre Greipel (Lotto-Belisol) was 2nd in the 133.5km 21st Stage.

In his speech, Chris Froome’s said “this yellow jersey will stand the test of time”.  He also lamented that his late mother could not be there to see him.

The much awaited fireworks didn’t happen and so we had to be content with the light show on the Arc de Triomphe.
