Team Jayco AlUla go 1-2 in Slovenia -Peña Claims First Professional Victory

Jesus David Peña took his first professional win and teammate Filippo Zana finished second on stage four of the Tour of Slovenia to take the general classification lead, on a chaotic day.

Peña suffered a crash during the stage and Italian Champion Zana also came down later while leading the race. The young Colombian, who had been in a small chasing group behind his teammate, passed him and was able to stay away for the final kilometres of the stage to claim victory.

Thankfully behind, Zana managed to remount his bike and finish in second place in a brave ride that earned him the overall lead heading into the final day tomorrow.

Both riders took the opportunity to remember Gino Mäder at the finish line, and Team Jayco AlUla also extends its heartfelt condolences to Gino’s friends, family and Bahrain Victorious team.

Jesus David Peña:
“I’m really, really happy for this first victory in Europe. I’ve been having a difficult season with some issues, but I had good legs and the team gave me the opportunity.

In the first descent I had a crash, and when I saw Filippo had crashed I thought I had to stop for him but the DS told me he was ok, and to try to go on for the stage win. It’s an important first win for me and nice Zana was also second.”

Filippo Zana:
“I am happy that David won for Team Jayco AlUla today. I also wanted to win to dedicate the victory to Gino. It’s a very sad moment for cycling, all of us are sad and it’s not easy to race during these days. All our thoughts are for him in every moment.”
