With the 2019 season approaching, Team Sunweb are excited to announce the expansion of their performance staff, with two new arrivals to strengthen their coaching team. Alongside the newcomers the team also say goodbye to Tom Veelers (NED), who starts a new chapter and a new challenge.
Matt Winston
Matt Winston (GBR) joins Team Sunweb as a coach from the 2019 season. Winston brings 12 years of coaching experience to the team, having worked with British Cycling’s Olympic program and One Pro Cycling team throughout his career. Winston will join Team Sunweb’s performance staff as race coach.
Albert Timmer
Winston is joined by ex-Team Sunweb rider Albert Timmer (NED), who makes the transition to the team’s staff as a tutor at the Keep Challenging Center in Sittard. Timmer belongs to the team’s core and having worn their colours for 11 years, he was a part of multiple stage wins at the Tour de France, as well as the team’s Monumental victories at Milano San-Remo and Paris-Roubaix. His new role in the team will focus on giving workshops and lectures, sharing his vast knowledge and experience with the young athletes of Development Team Sunweb.
Tom Veelers
Alongside these arrivals, Tom Veelers (NED) will leave the team after a stellar 11-year career within their ranks. Veelers turned professional with the team in 2008 and an impressive career saw him take four professional victories, with his strength also propelling teammates to multiple wins, including 12 across the three Grand Tours. After a persistent knee injury forced him to retire in 2016, Veelers enjoyed a career as a coach within the team. He now moves forward with his career to take on a new challenge, which will allow him to spend more time with his wife and young children.
