THESE ARE PLACES WHERE IT IS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO ENSURE THAT THE MEASURES CONCERNING THE SAFETY DISTANCE BETWEEN PEOPLE, ESSENTIAL FOR THE FIGHT AGAINST THE TRANSMISSION OF COVID-19.
The Basque Government and the organization of La Vuelta have decided that the climbs of the Arrate and Orduña passes (stages 1 and 7, October 20 and 27) will take place without an audience. The Basque government considers that the current epidemiological situation does not allow the appropriate conditions to be met to consider the presence of the public. The orographic characteristics of the two mountain passes make it extremely difficult to control compliance with the minimum safety distance between people.
In this regard, the Basque government is based on the Ordinance of August 19, 2020 of the regional Ministry of Health, on the preventive measures necessary to face the health crisis caused by COVID-19. It is established there that, for road cycling, the space or the course on which the event is to take place must be defined beforehand, with a maximum of 1000 people per space or course and an interpersonal physical distance of 1, 5 meters between the public present and the participant, and wearing a mask is compulsory.
ARRATE AND ORDUÑA
The ascent of the Arrate Pass will take place at the end of the first stage of La Vuelta 20, on October 20, with a start from Irun and a finish at the Sanctuary of Arrate. The ascent of the Orduña pass is scheduled for the 7th stage, on October 27, with a start from Vitoria-Gasteiz and a finish in Villanueva de Valdegovía.
The organization of La Vuelta works in close coordination with the competent authorities of each Autonomous Community, in order to establish specific measures for each of the 18 stages that make up the route of the 75th edition, as well as for the mountain passes through which pass where the stages of La Vuelta 20 end and will communicate as soon as possible the points to which access will be prohibited to the public for health reasons.
