Thomas king of Tour of the Alps. Pinot celebrates in Trento

Team Sky’s Welsh withstood the attacks of his opponents, Pinot and Pozzovivo, claiming the overall success in the Euro-regional race. FDJ’s Frenchman wins the stage 5

Team Sky’s Geraint Thomas claimed the overall success of the Tour of the Alps, the new race taking over from Giro del Trentino. The 30-year-old Welsh withstood the attacks of his opponents, Thibaut Pinot (FDJ), Domenico Pozzovivo (AG2R) and Egan Bernal (Androni-Sidermec), on Monte Bondone climb and Novaline hill.

Pinot clinched victory in the reduced sprint that decided the stage 5 (Smarano – Trento 192,5 Km), preceding Brent Bookwalter (BMC) and Thomas.
