Quinten Hermans, Xandro Meurisse and Corné Van Kessel started 2020 in the mud in Baal this Wednesday. The trio showed the new Tormans Cyclo Cross Team kit on the occasion of the Sven Nys GP, the 6th race of the DVV Trophy. Hermans and Van Kessel followed Mathieu Van der Poel and Eli Iserbyt from the start. When Van der Poel attacked halfway through the race, the two representants of Tormans Cyclo Cross Team weren’t able to jump on the right train. The muddy terrain in Baal pushed the riders towards mistakes, taking away their hopes to finish on the podium. Van Kessel took a 4th place at the first race of Tormans Cyclo Cross Team, Hermans finished 6th and Xandro Meurisse 20th. A succussful result for the new cyclocross project. Van Kessel and Meurisse will meet again this Saturday in Gullegem, with Hermans joining Van Kessel on Sunday in Brussels.
Corné Van Kessel (4th) :
« My shape is good, which I showed again today. I made some mistakes during the last laps, taking away my chances to finish on the podium. I’m very confident, but I need some more races to adapt to our new equipment. But I’m happy about my start in the colours of Tormans Cyclo Cross Team! »
Quinten Hermans (6th) :
« At the start of the race I already felt that Corné was stronger than me today. That’s why I made a big effort to close the gap with Van der Poel and Iserbyt at the beginning of the race. We get along very well, and we’ll reach the top with Tormans Cyclo Cross Team. I’m very happy to see so many people here in Baal supporting us and in particular, our new sponsor Jan Tormans. »
« I’m very happy about our new equipment, even if I’ll need some time to adapt. I’ll continue the acclimatizing in competition this Sunday in Brussels in order to be ready for the Belgian championships in Antwerp! »
Xandro Meurisse (20th) :
« Cyclocross is my first love, but until yesterday, I was the only cyclocross rider. Quinten and Corné already gave me advice before the race. It’s a great feeling to be supported by a whole team and by new teammates! »
