Tour de France Prudential Singapore Criterium : Cav’s Swan Song Victory Dance

  • The third edition of the Tour de France Prudential Singapore Criterium witnessed a cycling legend say goodbye to the sport. With 165 pro victories to his name, including 55 in the Grand Tours , Mark Cavendish was contesting the final race of his career on Sunday, at the age of 39, and the Briton bid farewell to the sport in style, winning in the heart of Esplanade Park, a stone’s throw from Singapore’s National Gallery.
  • Wearing the race number 35, representing the number of stages he has won in the Tour de France, the record that he holds alone ahead of Eddy Merckx since his victory in Saint-Vulbas on 3 July, the Astana Qazaqstan Team rider dominated the sprint finish over two other great mass-pack specialists, Jasper Philipsen and Arnaud de Lie, while Tour de France green jersey Biniam Girmay won the points classification and Thomas De Gendt the combativity title.
  • Before the race, which covered 57.5 kilometres on a circuit offering stunning views of Marina Bay, the Malaysian Terengganu team won the team time trial.
