Tao Geoghegan Hart gives Team INEOS Grenadiers another overall win at the Tour of the Alps after a demanding last stage, from Cavalese to Bruneck/Brunico. Carthy and Haig rounded out the podium, as Simon Carr won the final stage after a long breakaway
Tao Geoghegan Hart is the king of the 2023 Tour of the Alps. Winner of the first two stages in Alpbach and Ritten/Renon, the 28-year-old Brit gave Team INEOS Grenadiers the fifth overall win in the euro-regional stage race through Tirol, Südtirol/Alto Adige and Trentino, controlling the situation in the final stage, 144,5 Km from Cavalese (Trentino) to Bruneck/Brunico (Südtirol/Alto Adige), characterized by bad weather.
Another Britain rider, Hugh Carthy (EF Education EasyPost) and Aussie Jack Haig (Bahrain-Victorious) rounded out the final podium, whilst Ecuador’s Jefferson Cepeda (EF Education EasyPost) took the fourth overall place ahead of Italian Lorenzo Fortunato (EOLO-Kometa).
Instead, Simon Carr (EF Education-EasyPost) took the final stage after a long breakaway. The 24-year-old Britain rider preceded his teammate Georg Steinhauser and Italian Matteo Fabbro (Bora-hansgrohe) on the finish line in Bruneck/Brunico.
