Ulissi Again at the Giro d’Italia

The Lampre-Merida rider claimed his second Giro win in Asolo.

After four stage wins last year, today – Wednesday May 18th – Diego Ulissi claimed his second success at the 99th Giro d’Italia, winning in great style the 11th stage of the Corsa Rosa, Modena-Asolo of 227 km.  

Northwave hosted a hospitality area atop the last climb of the day, the Mostacin ascent, where international guests from 20 Countries supported the Northwave riders. At the finish, in the three-man sprint Andrey Amador (Movistar) and Pink Jersey Bob Jungels (Etixx-QuickStep), Ulissi took the win.

Ulissi moved on the attack chasing Amador and Jungels on the final ascent of the day with 8 Km to go. He bridged over to the escapees and he showed his sprinting skills, giving Northwave the second stage-win at the Giro d’Italia. “Today we were perfect”, said the winner. – “We controlled the break in the first part of the race. Both Modolo and I had a good feeling: Sacha was waiting for the sprint, while I tried to reach the two escapees. In the finale, I was afraid of Amador’s sprint, but I made it”.

Now, Ulissi occupies the tenth overall place, 2’47” behind pink jersey Jungels, and the third place in the Points Classification, while Sacha Modolo, entered the day’s top-10, finishing seventh on the finish line.
