Guillaume Van Keirsbulck celebrates the first seasonal win at Le Samyn
Guillaume Van Keirsbulck conquered the 47th edition of Le Samyn, event of the Belgian calendar, on Wednesday March 1st. The 26-year-old rider of Wanty-Groupe Gobert, team entirely equipped by Northwave with Extreme RR shoes and Extreme Light Pro socks, preceded after a tight head-to-head Luxembourger Alex Kirsch, whilst Iljo Keisse rouded out the podium in a day plagued by bad weather.
In the Flemish one-day race, Van Keirsbulck claimed his first seasonal win, breaking a personal 3-year drought. A great confidence boost for the Belgian rider in view of the upcoming cobblestones’ classics, E3 Harelbeke, Gand-Wevelgem, Ronde van Vlaanderen and Paris-Roubaix.
“For the first time, this year I can race for myself – Van Keirsbulck said – and it was nice to come out on top today. Last year we had the same weather and I got too cold on the last lap, but today I took enough clothes to be sure”. In addition, another Northwave and Wanty-Groupe Gobert rider, Frederik Backaert, finished fifth on the finish line.
