XCM Worlds: Spitz in Silver

At the Mountain Bike Marathon World Championships, in Singen (Germany), on Sunday June 25th: Sabine Spitz (Germany) and Daniel Geismayr (Austria) claimed the silver medal in the women’s category and the bronze in the men’s race, after remaining in contention for the biggest goal through the whole contest.

In the women’s race, Spitz crossed the finish line behind winner Annika Langvad (Denmark), while Gunn-Rita Dahle (Norway) took the bronze, the UCI Cross Country #1, and defending Champion, Jolanda Neff (Switzerland).

Like the women’s challenge, the men’s race was marked by uncertainty: Alpentour Trophy’s winner Geismayr finished third as Alban Lakata (Austria) clinched victory ahead of the defending champion Tiago Ferreira (Portugal) in a three-man sprint. The trio moved on the attack in the second part of the race, preceding by 2:43 the chasing group led by Jaroslav Kulhavy (Czech Republic), fourth ahead of Mathieu Van der Poel (Netherlands).
